New DEMETRIUS & THE GLADIATORS Blu-ray…or is it?

A new Blu-ray release of DEMETRIUS & THE GLADIATORS (1954) is now available in France (and sold on eBay). The cover has the Fox logo. Is it legit? It looks like it is but is it the same dreadful copy from the Twilight Time print released in the US? If so, then I don’t ant it. Unfortunately, there are no reviews, with screen grabs, of this release so there’s no way to know for sure. It has the English track.

Compare this to the Twilight Time Blu-ray which goes for $125.44 on eBay. Who would want to pay that much for a mediocre transfer!

  1. I just ordered this two days ago. I had just watched the 20th Century Fox bluray restoration and it was indeed a revelation. So gorgeous to behold. It’s like seeing the movie for the first time. So, naturally I went on a “Blu-ray hunt” for the sequel. When I saw how much they are asking for the Twilight Time blu-ray needless to say I was completely “taken aback”. It’s one thing for Twilight Time to have supposedly only distributed only 3000 of these but to pay that much for a mediocre product just doesn’t sit well with me. I’d rather waste $20 on this product or be pleasantly surprised if it turns out to be a quality product. I’ll know soon enough.

  2. I’m sorry. I was referring to ” The Robe”. Truly a marvelous restoration. Too bad Fox didn’t just restore D,A,T,G. at the same time, After all, that’s how the movies were filmed. It would have been in keeping with Fox tradition.
